Winter Phase: Ballad of the Pair Royal Sisters
The Pair Royal Sisters, their mother sent them out
To the gold rush ski resort for the bachelors about
For surly her beauties, a rich man they could peg
For in poverty she would not beg
Camilla found a sultan polishing a rare sapphire
Petunia found a major who had hunted all that’s wild
And Daisy found a woodcutter who tended the lodge fire
And liked to drink spicy cocoa with whisky
Well, the sultan wanted all three to be in his bouquet
And the major only hunted the most unbroken of game
The woodcutter needed little and had less to offer
So he dared not ask Daisy to stay
That night the woodcutter, he awoke to a sound
The report of a pistol brought his feet to a bound
In the lodge he found Daisy with her shoulder strap torn
And the major and sultan in quarrel
Before reason was given, the blades they were drawn
Like two serpents mating at the edge of dawn
Officer’s sword and shamshir, they clashed and tangled
Erupting hatred they’d claimed was forgotten
The gamblers and tycoons all gathered at the stairs
Camilla and Petunia, in horror they both stared
One’s lipstick smeared and the other’s breath of ale
Watching Atlantis sink before them
In the woodcutter’s cabin he tended the old sled dog
The major’s aim was deadly but his brandy had been strong
He told Daisy not to worry for it was a minor wound
And she kissed him with unspoken answer
In the morning the pine boxes were carried down the mountain
The repercussions would be terrible but for now hang uncertain
And the Pair Royal Sisters, each to make of what they find
But no longer stand three of a kind
Of a kind
No, they no longer stand three of a kind
