Checking In: Have You Always Been Here?

Have You Always Been Here?

Have we met before?
Seems I’ve seen you somewhere
Do you come? Do you go?
Have you always been here?

Have I said this before?
Am I, unknowing, in a game?
Was I the one who wrote the rules?
What is to lose and what’s to gain?

Could beauty be the beast of passion?
And what of the beholding eye?
What of the beauty of the spirit?
In curve or aura do you shine?

In tragedy is there attraction?
That look of one who’s really seen
That can stand out in the traffic
Like an island in the sea

Everybody has a story
With chapters one might wish to peen
But I would open up my book
To hear your voice read mine to me

There’s a poker chip under a seat
Upon some metro froze in time
There’s a vague newspaper headline
Stuck in the back of my mind
And all the squirrels our in the park
Are acting out 60s sitcoms
I’ll be the voice for that fat grey one
Would you like to play along?

Have we met before?
Seems I’ve seen you somewhere
Do you come? Do you go?
Have you always been here?
