At Dawn She Comes: Still Below

Still Below

High school friends all riding the rails
Futons, crotons - crumbs on the rug
But that ain’t me; I’ve got this old rat tail
I’m gonna hang on tight – climb right to the top

Leafing through black book connects
See who I’ve still got and who I’m up against
I’m gonna comb some wigs
Chew the fat with pigs
Book a bluegrass band for my grassroots gig
And where the apple falls… that don’t matter much to me
Nose in the air like a shark
Barking ‘round a money tree

And girl, I know
Yeah baby, I know…
Hard to think about coming down when you’re still below

Get me a pinstripe tailored toga
Pair of new shoes and a theater voice
Have someone knock off a charisma donor
Pant it in the backseat; make it look like a choice

Hey sister look, big brother is made
Roll out the carpet; pour out the parade
I’m full front page
Upstaging the stage
I’ve got the whole saying I’m all the rage
And if the D.A. calls, just tell him I’m out for tea
Smug grin on my face
Daydreaming in the factory

And girl, I know
Yeah baby, I know…
Hard to think about coming down when you’re still below

Tycoon Viking – I’m a liking that ring
Hail to chief if you know what’s good
History is safe as long as it’s all on film
To build a nice fire, you don’t need any wood

That’s right sister, big brother got plans
We ain’t always gonna have dirty hands
Just keep dreaming big
Between each swig
With gasoline cans and mansions to pick

And girl, I know
Yeah baby, I know…
Hard to think about coming down when you’re still below

Girl, I know
Yeah baby, I know…
Hard to think about coming down when you’re still below
