At Dawn She Comes: Cherry Blossom Petals
I went to my old school one day
When I felt like I knew nothing
And nothing would make sense
But all of the faces had changed
There were some from battle scars
And the rest had been replaced
There was glimmer... from the concrete stairs
Glass dust from where her slipper... had shattered
There was glimmer... in her eye, I swear
When she told me it didn’t matter
When she told me it didn’t matter much to her
Seems like it’s snowing in spring
With all these... cherry blossom petals
Dancing in the midday wind
Around the sidewalk where they kissed
I went up to a garden of stone
One the hill past the old church
Right across from the orchard
I laid a bouquet on their graves
Told them tales of life in college
How it was good to be back home
There was a raindrop... on the driver’s mirror
Though the sky was clear as I... took 95
There was a raindrop... as I passed the scene
Where drunken hands had carried
Where drunken hands carried their smiles away
Seems like it’s snowing in spring
With all these... cherry blossom petals
Dancing in the midday wind
Around the sidewalk where they kissed
