Wounded Lands: The Monk

The Monk

He shaved his head in mourning on the day of her wedding
The tangled curls of her eyes fell, carpeting his holy feet
And blood and tears, they mixed with blows that he laid down
Upon his bare crown

(Chorus)

Lady Serenity
You don’t come around here anymore
No more just visiting
You don’t come around here anymore

The temple of his ancestors: charcoal, ash and shattered stone
The men over the mountain pillage all their eyes of jade behold
And prayers and cries, they mixed in smoke as he fell down
And made no sound

(Repeat chorus)

Up on the hilltop he was carried to his tomb be loved ones
They sang sweet songs for him and spoke of all the deeds he’d done
Though he’d forgotten all of them, still, his kindness was repaid
As they laid him down

(Repeat chorus)
