Twilight Hour: Toy Train

Toy Train

It’s been a hard road, I don’t need to tell you
Said a Plato to a Socrates
All the limbs that met you on the way down
Falling from the fruitless model trees

And as the toy train goes by
There is no bad reason to cry
You make a family from inside you

Something was missing – the manikin eyes stared
The season never changed outside your house
Dust gathered on yesterday’s model
Flames trailed behind yesterday’s spouse

Let go of yesterday’s weight
For no longer must you wait
The love you seek now is inside you
And as the toy train goes by
There is no bad reason to cry
You make a family from inside you

From a hospital bed, you look out at the table
No longer lost in the hobby
Now that you’ve finally found trinity
You’ll never seek another family

And as the toy train goes by
There is no bad reason to cry
You made a family from inside you
In baby’s eyes, in baby’s eyes
Make your peace with all that dies
You’ve made your family from inside you

From inside you
